Story
Svante Skogh (1908–1988) was a furniture designer and interior architect active in mid-20th-century Sweden. He studied at Konstfack in Stockholm and worked with both mass-produced furniture and craft during the postwar expansion of the Swedish furniture industry.
He is particularly known for his work with Seffle Möbelfabrik. His furniture is characterized by straightforward expression of solid wood and timber construction, restrained detailing and proportions shaped around practical use. He also designed for several other manufacturers, including OPE Möbler, Asko and Laauser.
Known works include the Model 775 Lounge Chair of 1954, the Bodö series of 1957 and the Cortina series developed from the late 1950s into the 1960s. Bodö combines a wooden frame with exposed leather straps, while Cortina uses the natural character of wood across tables and storage furniture.
His wife was the artist Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh. In the late 1930s the couple moved to Helsingborg, where they operated the interior-design company and shop “Genius.” This practical approach, treating furniture and interiors as an integrated whole, also informed Skogh’s later furniture design.
