History
Founded in 1911, Fredericia is a Danish furniture manufacturer known for its simplicity, durability, and functional craftsmanship. Its long-standing collaboration with Børge Mogensen played a defining role in establishing the identity of the brand, resulting in numerous pieces that blend everyday usability with timeless beauty.
At the core of Fredericia’s philosophy is the idea of “creating furniture meant to last.” From material selection to final assembly, the brand prioritizes thoughtful craftsmanship and the creation of long-lasting products as a genuine form of sustainability.
The Copenhagen showroom was established to present Fredericia’s history and design philosophy in the center of the city. The upper floors of the former Royal Mail House were extensively renovated to create a spacious 1,100 m² exhibition area featuring both classic and contemporary furniture. With natural light pouring through large windows, high ceilings, concrete walls, and terrazzo flooring, the interior highlights the beauty of materials and reflects the calm, refined character of Danish design. It is a space where the past and present coexist seamlessly within a historic building.
Highlights
A serene, light-filled gallery-like environment
One of the first impressions upon entering the showroom is the abundance of natural light. Soft daylight filters through skylights and tall windows, illuminating the textures of wood and leather. The muted interior palette acts as a quiet backdrop, allowing each material to stand out naturally as you move through the space. The displays are arranged in zones inspired by living rooms and lounges, making it easy to imagine how the furniture functions in a real environment. Even for casual visitors, the space feels like a calm design gallery.

Mogensen’s masterpieces and the beauty of patina
A major highlight is the section dedicated to Børge Mogensen’s iconic works. At the center is the impressive “2213 Sofa,” shown with the very piece Mogensen used in his own home for many years. Its patina—the soft sheen of aged leather and the deepened tone of the wood—conveys the idea that good furniture evolves and matures through daily use.

This space offers a rare opportunity to experience the Danish belief that furniture “completes itself through time.” Other classics such as the Spanish Chair are also displayed at close range, allowing visitors to appreciate the structural precision and expressive character of the materials.
Rooftop terrace overlooking Copenhagen
Another unique feature of the showroom is its publicly accessible rooftop terrace. Stepping outside, you are greeted with a clear view of the nearby Rundetaarn and the rooftops and spires of Copenhagen’s historic buildings. Despite being in the city center, the terrace is surprisingly quiet and especially pleasant on sunny days.
Fredericia’s outdoor furniture is arranged on the terrace, inviting visitors to sit and take in the scenery. It is a peaceful spot where you can directly feel how Danish design harmonizes with everyday urban life—perfect for a short break between sightseeing.
