Story
ARCHITECTMADE was founded in Denmark in 2004. Although it is a relatively young brand, its mission extends beyond product sales to cultural curation. Its philosophy, “Built to last. Born to be passed on.”, is a clear counterpoint to the transience of consumer culture and forms the foundation of the brand’s activities.
ARCHITECTMADE researches archives, museums, and original drawings to revive rare objects created by major architects and designers, often before they became widely known. This approach resembles a form of design archaeology rather than simple manufacturing. The company obtains formal licenses from architects or their estates, emphasizing authenticity and historical context.
The collection includes Hans Bølling’s Duck and Oscar, Kristian Vedel’s Bird, Paul Anker Hansen’s Owl, and Finn Juhl’s Circle Bowl and Turning Tray. These objects are not conceived merely as ornaments; their interactive qualities and narratives are intended to foster an emotional relationship with their owners.
ARCHITECTMADE also places strong emphasis on craftsmanship and material selection. High-quality woods such as teak, oak, and maple are used, with hand finishing and a three-stage quality-control process intended to maintain rigorous standards. This commitment to quality is central to reproducing the spirit of the original designs faithfully in the present day.
The brand has also been widely received in Japan through department stores and specialist retailers. Its philosophy resonates with Japanese appreciation for craftsmanship and concepts such as wabi-sabi, encouraging the idea of these objects as future heirlooms.
