Story
&Tradition is a furniture manufacturer founded in Copenhagen in 2010. Its distinctive business model combines the reissue of works by twentieth-century masters with collaborations with contemporary international designers to create new classics. Under the philosophy “Tradition tied to Innovation,” the company recontextualizes historic designs while seeking to shape the classics of the future.
Its collection forms a layered ecosystem in which reissues—including Verner Panton’s Flowerpot, Viggo Boesen’s Little Petra, and the Mayor Sofa by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen—coexist with contemporary works by designers such as Jaime Hayon, Space Copenhagen, and Luca Nichetto.
In manufacturing, &Tradition employs a hybrid model that combines traditional handcraft with modern technologies such as CNC machining, balancing craftsmanship with scalability. Environmental and social responsibility are also central to its management, including the use of FSC®-certified wood and recycled materials and the achievement of B Corp certification in 2024.
In the Japanese market, the company works with Hayashi Bussan Co., Ltd. as a partner and operates a showroom in Shibuya. It has also supplied products to Hotel Toranomon Hills, strengthening the brand through high-end projects. In this way, &Tradition has developed beyond the role of a furniture manufacturer to become a company that curates design culture in the twenty-first century.
