A 2025 Limited Edition Reimagining of Poul Henningsen’s Iconic Table Lamp
Louis Poulsen has introduced a new limited edition of the classic PH 3/2 Table Lamp, featuring the warm and refined “Dusty Terracotta” colorway. First designed by Poul Henningsen in 1927, the PH 3/2 model helped define modern lighting design through its glare-free, three-shade system. The 2025 edition faithfully preserves Henningsen’s original lighting principles while presenting a contemporary interpretation suited to today’s interiors.
The newly recreated glass color emits a subtly warmer glow compared to the standard opal glass, giving the lamp a distinctive presence whether lit or unlit. The stem and hardware are finished in lacquered aged brass, echoing the look of early PH fixtures and featuring Henningsen’s signature imprint—an exclusive detail reserved for limited editions.
The PH 3/2 is known for its hybrid construction: a top shade approximately 30 cm in diameter paired with proportionally smaller lower shades. This configuration creates a soft, layered light that forms a gentle “island of illumination” on desks, sideboards, or windowsills while keeping the light source fully shielded from direct view.
What Is the PH 3/2?
Poul Henningsen developed the PH system in the 1920s based on scientific light distribution, aiming for soft, glare-free illumination. The “3/2” designation refers to the combination of a No. 3 top shade with smaller No. 2 lower shades—a balanced hybrid that provides both downward task lighting and warm ambient glow.
The 2025 Dusty Terracotta edition enhances this effect, adding a natural, earthy tone that complements modern interior materials such as wood, stone, and textiles.
