Story

Ejvind A. Johansson (1923–2002) was a Danish furniture designer and trained cabinetmaker. He completed his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in 1949 and combined solid woodworking knowledge with simple forms intended for everyday use.

In 1956, at the age of thirty-three, he became head of the FDB Møbler design studio, following Børge Mogensen and Poul M. Volther. He led the studio for three years, from 1956 to 1958.

His best-known FDB design is the J67 dining chair, created in 1957. Its horizontal back elements give the chair a light and open character. When FDB Møbler was relaunched in 2013, J67 was one of the four chairs included in the renewed collection from the start.

Johansson’s work reflects the FDB tradition of combining robust cabinetmaking with clear, accessible furniture for daily life.
